Giant Honey Bee

Hello, wellcome back to my blog. In this beautiful Saturday I would like to share knowledge about animal, that has a lot of uses.

They are Giant Honey Bees from species Apis dorsata. 

Apis dorsata   is a giant honey bee from South and Southeast Asia. They are typically around 17-20 mm (0.7-0.8 in) long. They have six legs, quite long body, some have a stung, some not.  They have a furry area on their torax, and their abdoment has a yellowish strip.

People ussually use this species for the source of honey and beeswax. They are easy to be cultivated but when they get distrubed, they can be very agressive.

As we known, bees are social animal, they made a colony. In their colony, every bees have their each position. The positions are..

1. Worker bees


Worker bees are all female that sterile. They hatched from the egg layed from the queen bees. They have a lot job like cleaning the nest, make a honeycomb, build a nest, or even feeding the larvae. They have a sting, but if they sting,  their abdoment will be torned and they'll die.

2. Drone bees



Drone bees are all male. Their job is to mate with the queen bees from another hives. They die immidiately after mating. We can recognize them by their big round body and big eyes.

3. Queen Bee



There are only 1 queen bee for 1 hive. Queen bee hatched from good egg and feeded with royal jelly when they are still a larvae. They has long and bigger body than worker bees but they have smaller wings. Queen bee can lays up to 1500 eggs a day.
